Suman opens the 2025 trail running season with 2 outstanding results

Suman Kulung opens the 2025 trail running season with two outstanding successes in Europe

Suman continues his impressive career on the international trail running scene. In spring 2025, he attracted international attention with outstanding performances in two high-profile races in the UTMB World Series.

8th place in the Chianti Ultra Trail in Italy – a sign of respect among world stars

At the Chianti Ultra Trail by UTMB, one of the most prestigious races in Europe, Suman achieved a sensational eighth place in the elite field. Known for its picturesque but demanding route through the Tuscan hills, the race attracted numerous top athletes from all over the world, as it does every year. This year, however, the conditions were particularly challenging due to rain and muddy ground.

For Suman, it was a strategically strong race and proof that professional training with Hari Viertlmayr is paying off. Securing a place in the top 10 in a top international field underlines his growing status among the world's best trail runners.

Podium place in Istria – 2nd place with record improvement

Just a few weeks later, on 12 April 2025, Suman achieved his greatest success to date: 2nd place in the Istria 100 by UTMB, covering 69 kilometres and 2,300 metres of elevation gain. With a sensational 46-minute improvement on last year's time, Suman impressively demonstrated his continued development. Only the Swiss runner Baggenstos was faster – further proof that Sumi is now among the very best.

On the road to the 2025 World Championships

These results clearly show that Suman Kulung is on the right track. His big goal this year is the World Championships in Spain in September 2025. With his current form and mental strength, he is already one of the secret favourites – especially in mountainous terrain, which suits him well.
